Chocolate Pot de Creme
This is the ultimate chocolate dessert, and it is perfect to make for those you love on Valentine’s Day ❤️ Of course, you can serve this any time, but because it’s so decadent, I save this recipe for special occasions.
Pot de Creme is a French dessert dating back to the 17th century. The name means “jar of cream,” which refers to the porcelain cups in which the dessert is served. Pot de crème is essentially rich custard made with eggs, egg yolks, cream, milk, and a flavor, often vanilla or chocolate. Traditionally, the milk and cream are heated and flavored, then mixed into the whisked eggs and egg yolks. The mixture is strained and poured into cups, then baked in a water bath at low heat; sometimes prepared without milk and frozen.
Well, I don’t want to go to all that trouble to make a dessert! My recipe isn’t complicated and is much quicker. This easy pot de creme only takes about five minutes to prepare; however, it does need six hours or so to set, so plan accordingly.
Easy Pot de Creme
Ingredients
6 ounces dark chocolate, chopped (you can use 1 cup of quality chocolate chips instead)
2 cups heavy cream (can substitute with vegan or coconut cream)
3 egg yolks
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
Instructions
You’ll need six 4-ounce ramekins for this dessert.
Put the chocolate in a blender. Set aside.
Place the heavy cream, egg yolks, sugar, and salt in a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisking to combine. Whisk continually until the mixture just starts to bubble and is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. Remove from heat.
Add vanilla to the saucepan and stir.
Pour the hot mixture into the blender and blend with the chocolate until smooth.
Pour the mixture into small, individual ramekins and refrigerate for 6-8 hours or until set. You can also let them thicken overnight in the refrigerator.
When you pull the pots de creme out of the refrigerator, they will be quite firm, so let the ramekins sit for ten minutes at room temperature before serving. Serve with whipped cream, berries, or chocolate shavings.
See how easy that is? This may just be your new favorite chocolate dessert! Each bite tastes heavenly 🙂 Enjoy!
Highly recommend this one, a true Natalie Special. Absolutely delicious!! Xx
I remember having these at your house! They were so delicious! Thanks for the recipe!
