Simple Acts of Love
A Valentine’s Day Reflection
I've written a little note on love for Valentine's Day, and it’s not just for those in love. It’s about the many ways love can be celebrated, and about how acts of affection and gratitude make this day—and every day—more meaningful. ❤️
Valentine’s Day is a special day dedicated to the celebration of love. While often associated with romance and gift-giving, this day should truly be a tribute to the many ways love enriches our lives. Whether it’s the tender love between partners, the caring presence of family, or the deep bond of friendship, Valentine’s Day reminds us to cherish and convey our feelings for those who matter most.
Valentine’s Day reminds us to pause and reflect on the joy that love brings into our lives, and offers us an opportunity to express our affection to our loved ones. On this day, simple acts—a tiny love note, an encouraging text, a thoughtful gift—can speak volumes. These are reminders that love doesn’t have to be a big display or extravagant. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with lavish gestures or fancy gifts (those are great, too ☺️), the important thing is the love behind them. The ones that come straight from the heart, whether grandiose or humble, are what mean the most.
“The best portion of a good person’s life is ‘the little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.”
― Allen Levi, Theo of Golden
Many people don’t prefer Valentine’s Day because it’s turned love into a money-making scheme that’s too commercialized, and it places immense pressure on couples. For single people, it can intensify loneliness or feelings of exclusion. Some even say love shouldn’t be dictated by a holiday, just as Thanksgiving shouldn’t be the only day to express gratitude. But what if instead we view Valentine’s Day as a prompt to honor those for whom we have a deep affection, feel compassion towards, or cherish? We can reframe what this day means to us, so it’s not just about romantic love.
The true spirit of Valentine’s Day lies in the sincere, heartfelt acknowledgment of the love that connects us to one another. It’s a day to express gratitude to our spouses, friends, family, and even coworkers who make each day a little brighter. Participating in Valentine’s Day offers us the opportunity to celebrate the people who inspire us, support us, and make our lives more meaningful.
Ultimately, love is the greatest gift we can give and receive, making every day, not just Valentine’s Day, a little more extraordinary. May this holiday spur us on to simple acts of love. 💗
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Thank you for this. I loved it. My sisters and I decided to shower our 100-year-old aunt with love this Valentine's Day. One sister filled a huge red bag with all kinds of homemade Valentine's cookies for her and the other residents/staff at her assisted living home. Another sister sent her a lovely bouquet of flowers. I sent her a Valentine's card and had my kids send her videos with their children wishing her a happy Valentine's Day. The sister in town visited bearing gifts and the videos/pictures. She said our aunt was overwhelmed and teary with all the love showered on her. This blessed each of us in turn. It is truly the greatest gift to love one another!
Just this morning I thinking of how I have so many loves in my life, not one of them romantic, :) But all amazing and the best part of my life. Happy Valentine's Day!
